“There is a copy of the NES game Golf in the firmware of every Switch system”
Me: Oh haha, what a weird thing, probably some remnant from the debugging process -
“Since that was a game that Satoru Iwata programmed himself, this could have been intended as a way of saying that Iwata is spiritually a part of every Switch and is watching over and protecting every system.”
On July 11th*, the date of Iwata’s passing, doing Iwata’s “directly to you” motion with the Joy-Cons on the home screen will play a sound clip of Iwata and launch the game.
(* Before you try this yourself, note that simply changing the date on your system will not work, as this runs off the Switch’s internal internet-synced clock, meaning that changing the date manually will only work if the system has never been connected to the internet)
I… I can’t…
It goes even further than that.
Firstly, opening the game like this person is in the video is only possible with a brand new unit on system version 1.0.0 that has never been connected to the Internet. Because of this, opening it is pretty hard to replicate, unless if you have a completely brand new Switch. So, even if the system’s internal date is on July 11, it still won’t open if the system version is up to date.
The thing is, it’s not supposed to be opened.
The hidden Golf game has been described as an omamori, which, in Japanese culture, is a charm usually bought at shrines that offers spiritual protection and good luck if you keep it close to you.
Sometimes they’re made of cloth, and look like a tiny bag, which can contain a written prayer. People often tie them to something like a purse or a backpack, so that it’s always with them. Here are a bunch of different ones:
Omamori are not supposed to be opened, as doing so is said to remove its blessing.
Seeing as the hidden Golf game on the Switch is so difficult to run under normal circumstances, it’s probably not supposed to be opened in the first place. It’s likely meant to represent an omamori in Iwata’s honor. Its very fitting, because of how portable the Switch is, since people are likely to take it with them like they would with an omamori strapped to a purse or backpack.
How important do you have to be to have been “assassinated” instead of “murdered”?
That is…a good question
If the motivation is political, then it’s assassination. Otherwise it’s murder. You cannot be assassinated by accident.
If a jilted ex murders the Prince of Placeland, it’s just a murder.
If a jilted ex is also a member of a rival political faction, it may be assassination.
If a jilted ex is driving home in tears and accidentally runs over the Prince of Placeland in the middle of the night in a neighborhood where the streetlights are out because of the prince’s questionable infrastructure policy, it’s manslaughter.
Thanks murder side of tumblr
Not necessarily! If the lover got DRUNK and accidentally runs over the Prince of Placeland, then it’s definitely manslaughter. Or if they were speeding. Otherwise it’s entirely possible it’s just accidental homicide.
Manslaughter (at least in all jurisdictions descended from the Common Law, which is … basically the English speaking world, although we of course all have our own spins) is a matter of mens rea, as most murder issues are (manslaughter is still a type of criminally culpable homicide): it only applies if the perpetrator was knowingly engaged in an unlawful act that resulted in the death (or, conversely, could reasonably have been EXPECTED to know: ie you may be able to successfully claim that you, personally, were not aware that hitting someone with a car could kill them but given the process involved in getting a car etc you’d have a job convincing people that “you damn well SHOULD HAVE” doesn’t apply). There are even various wrinkles here as to whether it’s “voluntary” or “involuntary” or whatever, but that’s a further digression.
It’s only manslaughter if the lover was speeding, otherwise impaired, or driving recklessly. In many/most jurisdictions impaired driving is one of those automatically responsible for murder things: the act of putting yourself in control of a vehicle while impaired in and of itself is so illegal that it doesn’t matter whether you were or weren’t conscious, or whether or not you MEANT to, if you kill someone, you’re fully culpable. But still: that first threshold has to be crossed.
This is why, for instance, someone who has no idea they have a seizure disorder and has their first seizure ever behind the wheel of a car is not culpable even if the collision kills someone; conversely, if you ARE aware you have such a disorder, there are a large number of restrictions you have to observe related to your illness and driving, or you will be considered culpable next time.
Similarly, reckless driving, etc. You may not have meant to cause death or even injury, but because you were doing the thing in the FIRST place that you shouldn’t’ve, you become manslaughter-level responsible.
If they were sober and travelling at a reasonable speed (which will be a wobbly definition and is often the bone of contention in actual cases, as “reasonable speed” does not even necessarily mean “under the speed limit” depending on conditions), and their tears weren’t actually reasonably (this is another one of those words the case will hang on: REASONABLE) interpretable as a legal impediment to vision, then it’s merely accidental homicide, which is not a crime.
Even if their tears were pretty obviously a vision-impediment, they may still only be charged with (or convicted of, depending on the judge/jury) negligent homicide, aka “you should have been more careful.”
In any of the above cases, however, some culpability, either criminal or civil, may be then assigned to the state due to the infrastructure policy, depending on how much blame is attributed and tested in court.
a game that keeps track of how many cutscenes you skip and that determines how invested your character acts during cutscenes and in gameplay moments
If you skip too many cutscenes, the game won’t give you highlights on your map to show you where to go, because you didn’t pay enough attention to have made the note on your map yourself.
Somewhere, Hideo Kojima just got the largest erection.
This lady can’t afford six eggs, which always struck me as a little odd but I figured maybe that was normal in a poor French village. I mean, look at all the little kids she has; she probably struggles to afford any kind of food that would feed all of them… Right?
But later we discover something interesting about Gaston:
Gaston eats five dozen eggs every day. That’s 60 eggs. SIXTY. Which adds up to 420 eggs per week. No wonder this poor village doesn’t have enough of them to go around!
Gaston, who is very well-respected and successful and probably makes good money from his fabulous hunting skills, is cornering the entire egg market. To feed his addiction, he probably has to constantly go around and buy out every farmer’s supply of eggs, which causes the price on any remaining eggs to skyrocket.
Gaston is singlehandedly destroying the town’s economy.
Way to go, Gaston. You may be popular, but I’m sure that at least the chicken farmers were relieved when you fell to your death.
- long post about Rebecca answering fan questions - info from the podcast episode “Leading the Way- Rebecca and Steven Sugar”
If Rebecca were a gem, she’d be under Blue or Pink Diamond’s
court
The gem placements of the main characters relate to who they
are - Pearl (head)- way too inside her head,
intellectual - Amethyst (chest)- passionate, impulsive,
speaks from the heart all the time - Garnet (hands)- “hands-on”, active,
extremely balanced
For every new gem, [the crew] evaluates who they are based
on where their gem is placed
Amethyst’s favorite soda is Apple Seedra (?)
Flourite’s design was inspired by the caterpillar in Alice
in Wonderland and Grandmother Willow
Pearl’s favorite color is pink
Rebecca loves pineapples on pizza
Rebecca’s favorite job to do in animation is storyboarding (if
it is a board-driven show)
Rebecca’s favorite arc in One Piece is the Sogeking Usopp
vs. Luffy fight/arc, Usopp is her favorite character
Pumpkin doesn’t need to eat but he does sleep
When asked if Steven Universe is canonically just a cartoon
and if so, if Sardonyx is aware of this, Rebecca replied, “Sardonyx is self-aware.
I think Steven Universe is canonically just a cartoon in the canon of real life but within the show, it’s reality.
But Sardonyx has this transcendent mind. I think of Sardonyx a little like Psycho
Mantis (…) from Metal Gear. She can see outside of what’s going on y’know and
that’s something that I feel like Garnet can see beyond the moment into the
future and not just into the future but also all of these possible futures so
Sardonyx is sort of on this other level where she has that ability but Pearl’s
also in there so it’s also obnoxious.”
The theory about Garnet’s glasses changing the ratio of red
or blue depending on if Ruby or Sapphire’s personality is dominant at the time
is NOT TRUE. Garnet isn’t piloted by two people, she is her own person.
The zircons are poofed, not shattered. “They are certainly
not not in trouble, but they’re not
shattered.” -Rebecca
The people in the SU Universe have a different relationship
towards stories about superheroes due to the gem war
On references of the zircons’ designs: Paul Villeco showed
Rebecca history about a night club in Paris called Le Monocle, the monocle as this iconic lesbian fashion statement. Other
inspirations include: What’s the Truth about Mother Goose, Jughead and Film
Film Film
The Unfamiliar Familiar is a reference to ‘His Dark Materials’
When asked if gems who have their gem over their eye have
any sight impairments, Rebecca said, “I think it could affect their depth
perception but I don’t know if gems necessarily function the way humans do. I
think, if anything, they might even have some sort of enhanced sight (…) like,
your gem placement I think has a lot do, like I said, with you as a person. And
even Eyeball, I mean, was sort of scrutinizing everything. Then I suppose also
other senses could be heightened but that’s very human. I think gems—gems are
different. They work a little differently.” McKenzie: “So does that mean Jasper has a really good sense of smell?” Rebecca: “Oh, that I don’t know. Maybe not. I mean that was sort of just a
simple—like hard-nosed thought as a way a person could be.”
It is possible for a non-fusion gem to have the same
gem-type as a fusion (e.g. a Garnet that is just one gem) It would look
different though
Rebecca would like to have an OK K.O. crossover.
Back when OK K.O. was called Lakewood Plaza
Turbo, Rebecca and Ian hoped that to have a crossover called Stewood Plaven
Turbiverse, resulting in mushing the 2 shows together. Characters would include
Mr. Gar-net (Garnet & Mr. Gars), K-ven (Steven & K.O.), Penid (Pearl &
Enid), and Radethyst (Amethyst & Radecles)
feel free to add on to this post if I missed any information!
go-home-and-die% (legend of zelda: ocarina of time)
ASSPOD (halo 4)
Buttslapping: Using a glitch to jump incredibly high; while jumping, the board makes rapid jumping sounds which sound like the player is slapping their butt very quickly
Brock Through Walls: talking to Brock after triggering a different conversation on a frame-perfect reset, allowing you to walk through walls (hence “Brock through walls”) and skip the pewter gym.
Whale Early: Executing several frame-perfect jumps to save a loadzone buffer, make it out of bounds, and activate a different loadzone inside a whale, which can skip multiple fights, or even chapters
Go Home and Die%: a speedrun category for seeing how fast you can die in Link’s house.
ASSPOD: a warp that teleports the player to a console, allowing them to skip a walking section
