the autism spectrum is not a linear progression. there aren’t “more” or “less” autistic people. everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and to label them as high and low functioning is to ignore one or the other.

if u want to be a good ally to autistic people, trust and validate the experiences of people at all points on the spectrum, and listen to them when they say functioning labels are useless.
