I started volunteering at PAWS!

On Saturday, I started volunteering at the local animal shelter, PAWS. Very excited to be offering my time to this organization since they do not euthanize healthy and adoptable animals, they do not let people adopt their cats/kittens if they plan to de-claw them, and in general just have great practices and values from what I’ve seen/read.

On Saturday I was a KRA ((Kennel Room Attendant)) in the morning and a DW ((Dog Walker)) in the evening. Training took all of about ten minutes since it’s self-explanatory what to do, so I got right to work. Though weirdly enough, there were only about 10 or less dogs altogether at the shelter that day. That’s rare apparently, since there should normally be about 20 or more dogs there, though a lot of adoptions went through right after Christmas.

If anything, though, that was perfect. For my first day I really got to take it slow, be thorough, and learn the area and all that. Plus, I got to spend a LOT of one-on-one time with the dogs. I spent about 45 minutes sitting and loving Tango, a husky, towards the end of my shift. ^u^

So yeah, for all my KRA/DW shifts, I’m basically just cuddling dogs and taking them for walks, and then doing laundry and changing out stuff as needed.

Tomorrow I think I’m a DW again? Either that or a CRA ((Cat Room Attendant)), though I may be a CRA on Thursdays, nor Mondays. I signed up for three weekly shifts, and then starting witht he New Year I’ll be back on the schedule for work since I’ve recovered from surgery now.

I’m a busy bee, but I don’t feel overwhelmed by any of it, because it’s fulfilling and fun activities, imo. I even like working, mostly. XD
