Dark-skinned Black Girl I think the media focuses too much on light-skinned or mixed women when it comes to black female representation. I'm tired of seeing women who don't look like me in these hip-hop music videos that are supposed to be for black people, but all you see is white and light-skinned woc. I don't feel like I belong anywhere because I'm constantly excluded from something my women helped create. As a dark-skinned girl, I never felt good about myself because of that. I was made fun of for my skin tone and physical features. It's not helping other girls like me when all you show is white or light-skinned woc with Eurocentric qualities.
The rest of the black community ..........
Light-skinned Black Girl Basically, the problem with light vs. dark is that the dark-skinned girls hate on the light-skinned girls, and that doesn't solve the problem with black female unity. We need to come together as black women instead of being jealous and hating on each other. I can't help having light skin, long, good hair, and pretty eyes. It's just how I was born. I mean, dark girls were mean to me in the fourth grade, so colorism goes both ways, you know.
The rest of the black community Yess!!! *uproarious applause and cheers* We need to end this dark vs. light bullshit! Remember Willie Lynch? We're all black and mixed, anyway! Who is Zora Neale Hurston and Alice Walker?
