Honestly though, Steven Universe is such an important show to me because it’s fun and whimsical, but it also doesn’t shy away from controversial topics or difficult topics just because it’s a “kid’s show”. 

Canon femme nonbinary main characters? Sure thing.

Diversity in race and body types? You got it!

Deeper topics such as loss, isolation, and consent? Way ahead of you, bro.

Literally everything about Steven Universe is wonderful, and you can see how much love and consideration was put into the show. I honestly believe that the people working on SU wanted everyone to feel included and welcomed when watching the show; that’s what comes across to me when I sit down every Thursday evening. Even if it’s just fifteen minutes a week, it’s a really special time for me and I hope we get to see a lot more of this show.
