Okay but everyone laughs at Cory when he asked this, which of course led to shenanigans when he (and then Shawn) dresses up as a woman - NOT (at first) to understand women better, but so Cory could make a name for himself on the school paper.
But really, the answer is YES. He could have just asked, and Cory and Shawn could have just asked. In fact, a major plot point in the episode is that a girl is trying to tell Shawn how men can be predatory and ignore clear body language, and HE REFUSES TO LISTEN… at least, until some other dude gropes him while he’s dressed as a woman.
So I guess this whole episode was just about how marginalized groups’ life experiences don’t count until some privileged person wears their identity like a costume and vouches for them.
But Cory learned a lesson and Shawn got the girl at the end so whatever, right?
