So which Gem is the scariest?
Not any of the ones you’re thinking of.
It’s Lapis.
At any point after the ship crashed on Earth, Lapis could have used her water powers to trap any one of the gems. She could have flown off at any point. When Jasper grabbed her arm, she easily could have summoned the ENTIRE OCEAN to free herself.
But instead, she waited until fusing into Malachite. My take on that is that Lapis wanted to finally have power over someone else, and what greater power than to take her own captor prisoner? But taking Jasper as her prisoner wasn’t enough. Lapis needed to own her. Someone chained down could eventually get away, but as a fusion Jasper has zero way to escape. She is in Jasper head and body now. Jasper can’t even make a goddamn escape plan without Lapis knowing about it.
And while we’re on the subject of sharing a body/mind via fusion, let’s talk about how Lapis fused with Jasper while planning on completely dominating her. Assuming that her plan from the get-go was to grind Jasper into the dust, she managed a fusion (reportedly very difficult to do even under normal circumstances) while filled completely to the brim with hate. Even after fusing, she kept her plans secret from Jasper until she’d already starting using her water powers. Jasper didn’t know anything was wrong until it was too late.
“And I’m never letting you go!”
Edit: To the people saying “poor Lapis” and “Lapis deserved better than this”, I say that Lapis chose this since, again, she could have dragged Jasper down to the bottom of the ocean without fusing. This is what Lapis decided would make Lapis happy. And that’s terrifying.
