head cannon that the more compatible the gems are when they fuse the less distorted they are when they are one. This is why garnet has a mostly humanish body and why the Jasper/Lapis fusion was so distorted.
also explains why jasper and lapis combined don’t have a new voice actor and instead just have a combination of both their individual voices, where as garnet has the smoothest, prettiest, most relaxing voice on the whole show pretty much
