reasons I want Peridot to switch sides:

  • she can teach the Crystal Gems how to use modern Gem tech
  • an overarching plotline in which she falls in love with the planet and the Crystal Gems, initially suspicious, come to slowly trust her
  • a Crystal Gem redesign with the star emblem
  • new fusions
  • the Steven Universe equivalent of The Western Air Temple 
  • watching her out-persnicket Pearl
  • just imagine her actually studying Steven (at first the Crystal Gems are worried she’ll treat him as a lab rat but she finds herself charmed by his idealism and genuine trust in her)
  • jokes about her and Pearl having the Ultimate Forehead when they fuse
  • Amethyst discovering she’s just as fun to screw around with as Pearl
  • imagine her coming along on her first mission because they don’t trust her enough to leave her alone at the temple and nobody wants to stay behind to Peridot-sit
  • a parallel between Steven learning to befriend Gem monsters and Peridot starting out as an antagonistic force but eventually becoming a true friend

and most importantly

  • with more screentime and characterization maybe the MLG Peridot meme will die
