PERSONA DANCING ALL OVER MY SOUL
"I generally just tumble around."

Sweet Dreams ((Adelinta))

I blame Devo since they picked the prompt ((albeit they chose via a random number so they didn’t even know what they wrought)).

Words: 2310

Characters: Adelia, Jinta

Prompt courtesy of otppromptsImagine person A starts thrashing & panting in the middle of the night. Person B decides to wake them up, thinking it’s a nightmare, but to their confusion person A shies away from their comfort touch and nearly jumps off the bed when they try to hold them. Turns out it was a very realistic but /naughty/ dream and person A is feeling a little too sensitive. Bonus: Person A admits having had this issue for a while and starts to describe some vivid details. Person B fixes their issue. Cue sexiness.

Technically NSFW? Spoiler: They don’t do the do because Jack is a chicken but there is actually some fluff.

Spending the night at Adelia’s residence had become a regular occurrence ever since she’d burnt her hands out of commission. Even though she had long since healed, Jinta found himself staying over often enough out of choice rather than obligation.

Awkward at first, Adelia had gotten used to his presence, to the point where they even shared a bed, as Adelia did not have a spare in her apartment. However, her bed was large enough to fit the both of them comfortably, allowing them to both keep to their own side when they spent evenings together.

In the midst of one such evening, Jinta was brought to a stir. His eyes slowly opened as he glanced at the nearest clock. It was half past two in the morning, much too early to rise. However, he quickly realized what had brought him to wakefulness. No sooner than he closed his eyes to fall back asleep, he heard a soft whimper from the other end of the bed. Furrowing his brow, he rolled onto his opposite side, now facing Adelia. She appeared to be in a deep sleep, though had a distressed expression on her face. Jinta wasn’t sure if this warranted her to be woken up, and waited, watching to see if she showed any further discomfort.

For a few minutes, she was eerily still, and Jinta wondered if he’d merely imagined what he’d heard. He doubted this, though, as he was certain he wouldn’t have woken up otherwise- he tended to be a deep sleeper, unless he had worries on the mind. As Jinta was just about to roll back over and return to sleep, Adelia’s lips parted slightly, and she gripped the sheets at her sides while letting out another sheepish whine. The shallow breathing of sleep turning into a quicker inhale, marked by the quick rise and fall of Adelia’s chest.

Jinta deduced that she was having a nightmare, and knowing her history, he did not want her to re-experience anything she might be seeing in her sleep. Without further ado, he reached over, placing a hand on her shoulder and gently jostling her.

“Adelia? Adelia, wake up…” he whispered, though at his touch, she let out a soft yelp. Jinta quickly withdrew his hand, wondering if he’d done something wrong. Realizing she was still asleep, he reached over again, prodding her with a bit more force. “Adelia, come on. You need to wake up.” his voice grew a tad louder, which seemed to be enough to rouse her, as her eyes fluttered open.

She was panting as she drifted into consciousness, her cheeks flushing a rosy hue. When she caught sight of Jinta, her eyes widened, and she quickly sat up, placing a hand over her heart in shock. Surprised by such a reaction, Jinta paused with a puzzled expression on his face.
“Adelia, are you alright? You appeared to be having a nightmare, so I woke you.” he began to explain; Adelia rapidly shook her head, attempting to reign in her breathing.

“What? Oh, I’m fine. I just- er, I’m going to go get a glass of water.” she murmured, turning to get out of bed. Jinta reach out, placing a hand on her shoulder once again to give her pause.

“No, stay. I’ll go get it.” he offered, trying to comfort her, as she seemed assuredly frazzled by her nightmare. However, when Jinta placed a hand on her, a shiver ran down Adelia’s spine, and she bent forward, nearly falling off of the bed.

Jinta retracted his touch, concerned as Adelia appeared to be almost frightened by such a gesture. “My…. my apologies, Adelia. Is there anything I can do?” he asked.

“I… no… it’s fine.” she insisted quickly.

The two sat in awkward silence for some time, as Jinta tried to figure out what he ought to say, or if he was better off remaining quiet. Eventually, he could not bear the lack of noise.

“Do you have nightmares often?” he asked quietly, hoping not to startle her. She was still facing away from him, the lavender fabric of her pajamas draped against her thin, pale frame.

Adelia didn’t answer at first. She gave quite a long pause, until Jinta thought she wouldn’t answer at all.

“…it wasn’t a nightmare.” she confessed finally, which only increased Jinta’s curiosity and puzzlement. If it hadn’t been a nightmare, then why on earth had her reaction been so jarring? Before he could question her, she spoke again.

“Did I wake you up? Why were you up this late?” she questioned him, unable to look at him as she inquired.

“Yes, actually. You were making odd whining noises- you looked distressed, so I assumed it was a nightmare. I can’t imagine why else-” Jinta cut himself off mid-sentence as it dawned on him. There was one other candidate for a reason to her reaction, though the very thought of it made Jinta feel a heat in the tips of his ears. “Adelia, what were you dreaming about?”

“Oh my goodness…” she sighed in embarrassment. She knew that he’d inferred the actual cause of her distress, which only fueled her discomfort.

“What were you dreaming about?” Jinta asked again while a myriad of emotions swam through his brain. On one hand, he was relieved that she hadn’t had a nightmare, on the other… if it was what he suspected, he was intrigued, flustered, amused…..

“Something tells me you’ve already surmised the answer.” she muttered flatly, hiding her face in her hands.

“I don’t like to make assumptions.” Jinta retorted, crawling across the bed so that he was next to her. Feeling him draw even closer, she tried to turn her face away.

“You.” she whispered.

“Pardon?” Jinta asked, poking his head over her shoulder.

Adelia suddenly dropped her hands, revealing that the entirety of her face was bright red. She looked immensely frustrated, and quite bothered as well.

“You. I was dreaming about you.” It looked as though it pained her to confess to such a fact. Jinta couldn’t help but give a slight grin of amusement, though tried to repress it as to not make her genuinely upset.

“Is that so? And what role did I play in your dream? You seemed rather…. hot and bothered, as the saying goes.” he pressed her on the matter, genuinely curious. He wasn’t one to judge, after all. He wouldn’t admit to it unless asked, but he… well, he had experienced some vivid dreams involving her as well as of late.

“Now you’re just playing dumb.” she huffed, crossing her arms.

“Am I, now? I simply don’t want to assume anything uncouth if it’s not the case, so I’d rather hear the facts from you.” he mused.

“You’d know better than I would.” she muttered softly.

“What’s that supposed to mean? I’m no mind reader, you know.” Jinta protested.

“I don’t know why I keep having these dreams when this is much more akin to your hobby than mine. I don’t even like- I didn’t think I was interested in- this is too awkward.” Adelia sighed. If she weren’t already blushing profusely, she would have further done so in her haphazard explanation.

“Wait a moment, ‘keep’ having these dreams? This isn’t the first time, is it?” he was even further interested, a slight grin on his face.

Adelia didn’t answer, simply keeping her arms crossed tightly and avoiding his gaze.

“You know, it’s rather juvenile to skirt around the word. You can just go right out and say it, instead of calling it ‘my hobby’ or cutting yourself off. Just admit it- you were dreaming about us having sex, right?” Jinta called her out.

“I- I mean, yes, but- it’s… it’s too weird for me to just say it!” she argued, exceedingly flustered.

“You are squeamish about the most peculiar things.” he hummed, rolling his eyes slightly. “It’s just a word, you know. Sex. Intercourse. Fu-” Jinta began, though Adelia interrupted him.

“I know that it’s just a word! It’s just… oh, I don’t know. I really don’t.” she sighed, laying back on the bed. She had a faraway look in her eyes as she stared at the ceiling. In the dim lighting of the room, she looked almost sultry in this position.

“So, what did we do? I mean, besides the obvious. There’s many ways to have sex, you know.” he asked, at this point using the word simply because it was amusing to rattle her a bit. It baffled him that although violence and gore couldn’t even ruse her, the slightest mention of intimacy was enough to unravel her completely.

“Why on earth would I ever tell you?” she retorted, a slight pout forming at her lips.

“Well, I ought to know what you’d like me to do, right?” he made his case, and Adelia’s eyes widened. This was just the reaction he expected and hoped for.

“What- now you’re just being ridiculous.” Adelia snapped.

“Am I? You’re the one who described it as my hobby- a hobby I haven’t indulged in for ages, mind you.” he informed her. “Not that I’m sore over that, of course. I’m more patient than to get pestered over self-indulgence.” Jinta was quick to add on this statement. While he was having fun in the moment, the absolute last thing he wanted was to make her feel as though he was trying to pressure her into anything. No, he wanted it to be of her enthusiastic agreement when they did ultimately make love. Adelia picked up on this caveat quickly, which did give her a sense of relief.

“It was nothing too wild, I suppose.” she said finally. “I mean, I.. well, I am rather inexperienced, so I can only imagine what I do know of.” she tried to explain. “Touching each other, kissing various places, rubbing against- I can’t do this. I can’t be expected to explain this- it’s just too embarrassing, really.” she objected suddenly, rolling onto her stomach to hide her face.

“Oh, why stop? You seemed to be getting to the good part. I do wish you’d share more detail. You are rather eloquent, you know. It’s rare for you to be at a loss for words.” Jinta observed, which caused Adelia, to lightly kick at his thigh while she laid on her stomach.

Adelia didn’t respond, instead shivering slightly from the embarrassment. Jinta hesitated, wondering if he’d gone too far with teasing her. He started to feel a bit of remorse, and realized he needed to comfort her. Laying down beside her, he began to run his fingers through her hair.

“It’s not out of the ordinary to have those kinds of dreams.” he said suddenly, which caused her to turn and look at him. He was shocked, as there were actual tears in the corner of her eyes. She was so frustrated and humiliated by having such thoughts and the bashfulness that resulted that she didn’t know what else to do.

“Really…?” she asked, her lack of knowledge showing more than ever. Jinta nodded, pulling her into an embrace as they lay together.

“Yes, really. I’m sorry I gave you a hard time about it… I know it’s a touchy subject for you. Honestly, I’ve had dreams about you, you know. It’s not at all uncommon, I promise. When someone consumes your thoughts, it’s only natural that you start to think of them in that light.” Jinta assured her. “It’s okay to be flustered by these things, really. You just aren’t experienced or knowledgable. That’s not a bad thing, it just means what it means, nothing shameful.”

Adelia nodded, pressing her face against his chest while Jinta hands rested on the small of her back.

“Does it bother you… that I’m not a very sexual person?” she asked, unable to find a better way to phrase the matter. Jinta thought on this briefly, then shook his head.

“No, actually. Truth be told, I thought it would… and I do admittedly have my thoughts, but ultimately it hasn’t been a hindrance. Patience is a virtue- there’s more value in having to wait for something, right? And if waiting ensures your enthusiasm and excitement, then it’s well worth waiting for.” Jinta determined. It was absolutely odd for him to act like such a romantic. As he spoke he couldn’t help but notice how strange it was for him to feel this way on the matter. Was this just one of those odd changes that came with falling in love? He couldn’t tell- in regards to romance, both him and Adelia were infants to the matter.

Adelia soaked in this information, giving a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Jinta. I, er, I feel a lot better now.” she said quietly, glancing up at him. Jinta tilted his head down, giving her a brief peck on the lips. However, Adelia then craned her neck upwards, pulling him into another a kiss. They lingered this time, though Adelia suddenly retracted, gasping.

“What? Is something wrong?” Jinta asked, surprised by her reaction. Adelia furrowed her brow.

“Your feet… they’re really cold. It surprised me.” she informed him. The two paused, grins tugging at their lips before they burst into quiet laughter. Jinta rolled his eyes, glancing at the clock. By this point, it was far later into the night. Adelia followed his gaze, noting the time.

“I didn’t realize it was so late… we should try and get back to sleep.” Adelia insisted for the sake of practicality. They both had work in the morning, after all. Jinta nodded in agreement, and they both laid down to attempt a few extra hours of restfulness. As they began to doze, however, Jinta gave one last glance at Adelia, smirking slightly.

“Sweet dreams.” he whispered, then closed his eyes, secretly hoping the same for himself.
