It is possible to give someone another chance without putting yourself in a position to be wronged again.

I firmly believe that ~almost~ anyone has the capacity to change. Even if the chances are 0.0000001% that they would truly change, I believe in that minute possibility. I don’t EXPECT it to happen, but I believe in rolling the dice for that chance.

That being said, I will not allow them to try again from the same point that we left off from.They go back to the bottom, to square one, and they have to earn my trust and my security. At first, I only have their past experiences to compare them to. However, if they show true change and consisted change (over months and years) then I will be able to compare them to more than their past wrongs. And then, of course, if at any point they revert back to their old ways, they will go back to square one and I will step away.

Now, you are never obligated to give another chance to someone who hurt you. You have every right to cut them off and never look back. I just wanted to speak to those who always hold the hope that they can reconcile and trust that person again. I know that feeling.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
