Quick Spanish Lesson
A lot of people ask how to pronounce Alejandro’s name, and I think I’ve definitively found the answer, as I am a third year Spanish student.
Spanish vowel guide:
A - ah
E - ay/ey
I - ee
O - oh
U - oo
There are no exceptions to this in Spanish. If that vowel is in a word, that’s how it always it, unlike how English words.
That being said, here is how you would pronounce Alejandro Burromuerto:
(using English vowel pronunciation)
Ah-ley-hawn-drow Boo-row-moo-air-tow
ley as in I lay down to sleep
hawn as in fawn
row as in to row a boat
tow as in to tow a truck
NOTE: when pronouncing Burromuerto, the muer sound is moo-air, but when actually saying it you say it so fast it should come out sounding like mwair.
mwair as in the cold autumn air
ANOTHER NOTE: The double r in burro would be rolled in correct pronunciation (the r in muerto would NOT be rolled). However, some people are physically incapable of rolling r’s. In this case, pronouncing the double r with a “dr” sound will remedy the problem (do not emphasize the “d” sound, though. Just add it softly in front of the rr to emulate the rolled noise.).
I hope this helps!
