Jack’s gaze jolted to the girl next to him as she realized she was talking to him. He processed her introduction, pausing before replying as he ran through what he would say.
“Nice to meet you Paige, er, Espurr; My name’s Jack.” he introduced himself. «I already messed up her name!» he thought, berating himself silently for fumbling to call her Espurr, her preferred name. He hopes his anxiousness did not show through, and he looked back to her.
“So is your nickname Espurr because of the Pokemon?” he asked curiously. Because he never got out much, he developed an affinity for video games from a young age; one of the first games he played being Pokemon Blue. Ever since, he’d been a fan of the series, playing ever installment up to the latest one, Pokemon X.

When she affirmed the origin of her nickname, he smiled slightly, relieved that there was potentially someone with a shared interest. > he thought hopefully, unable to find any other explanation. Bearing this in mind, he confidently professed his affinity for the franchise. “That’s really cool!” he insisted, “I’ve been playing the games since Blue cam out.” Now talking about something he had quite a lot of knowledge about, he relaxed to a degree, and continued blathering on. “I absolutely loved X and Y! I raised an Espurr on my copy of Y; I think it’s so rad that it has different forms of Meowstic depending on the gender. Especially since the female is the one that gets the offensive moves for once!” Jack had a bad habit of going onto tangents when on a topic he likes. He didn’t even realize how talkative he became in the blink of an eye.
