I think Jack needs more development before that could happen, because with the state his character is in right now (muchly due to his anxiety), he doesn’t know how to protect himself in the sense that deep down, he still thinks he doesn’t deserve protection.
If he ever grew more and gained progress in his recovery, that would be a particularly interesting development!
