You know when you have really dull scissors, and a really easy to cut piece of string. Now put yourself in the place of the string and imagine that you could feel everything. Every cut from those dull scissors is slowly chopping you in half. Every time it fails it gets more and more painful. Until it finally manages to cut it completely. By that time, the string is mangled in the mess of what the scissors did. That, my friends, is how authors are to the fandom feels.
