Headcanon: Beth is transgender, and the reason she’s perceived as looking “awkward/ugly” by other characters throughout the seasons is because she’s mid-transition (had been on estrogen for about seven or eight months at the start of TDI) and other people were just asshats who didn’t know or did know and decided to be dickbags.

But then she connected with Lindsay, a fellow trans*woman, and they just connected so well and Lindsay taught her to not give a flying fuck about people’s opinion on her gender and gender expression and they lived together forever as besties.
