Dear mom and dad,
I wish I could be what you wanted.
I wish I never disappointed you.
I wish I was someone you could be proud of.
I wish I was the daughter you wanted.
I wish I didn’t cry every time I think about the future of my gender identity and transition.
I wish dad wouldn’t look so hurt and crushed whenever I ask him to use my preferred name.
I wish mom wouldn’t roll her eyes when I talk about my gender.
I wish I was getting good enough grades for you, dad.
I’ve always been a wishful thinker.
Love,
Jack
