Pepper’s Day In – Part 6
Apparently I’m on part six, so this is part six. XD Sorry I’m breaking up the story into a million pieces, my muse is just such a fickle child. =u=;;;;
Pepper felt as though time had frozen as Lightning turned to him vulnerable to the mountain of clutter about to collapse onto her. Holding his breath, he lunged forward, knocking her to the side. She yelped in surprise and tumbled over, though was out of harm’s way. However, the same could not be said for Pepper.
The entire content of the closet dumped down on him, and with a groan of pain, he was soon buried alive, save for his head poking out of the base of the pile.
“Oh my God! Pepper, what the hell?!” Lightning blurted out.
Pepper blushed slightly in embarrassment, avoiding eye contact.
“What are you getting worked up over? I’m fine…”
“Well, duh, you look just fine. I was talking about why you made your closet into a death trap in the first place!” she said, rolling her eyes. “Honestly… I leave for a while and this place turns into an organizational nightmare.” she added with a sigh. She glanced at the buried man, and with a resigned sigh she knelt down beside him, beginning to unearth him from the pile.
“It’s not that bad….” Pepper grumbled defensively, glancing up at Lightning.
“Oh? Then maybe I’ll just leave you here, since you don’t mind.” she teased, pulling a folded lawn chair off of Pepper. Now enough of the mess was gone that he could wriggle free, and stood up, dusting himself off.
“I…. well, no–” Pepper began, feeling awkward as he tried to find the words to say. He cleared his throat. “Just… whatever. You better keep looking for what it is you left here or you’ll be here all day.” he snapped.
Lightning flinched at the remark.
“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to impose.” she murmured, nervously toying with her sleeve. “Maybe I should just go.” she said abruptly.
“What?” Pepper gasped, then shook his head. “I– that’s not what I meant, okay? I, I meant to say, that is, I just… well, you already came out of your way to come here, so it’d be a waste if you left without finding what you’re looking for.” he huffed, crossing his arms.
Lightning observed this, and after a moment of silence, she giggled softly. Pepper glanced her way.
“What are you laughing at?!” he demanded to know.
“Oh, nothing…. come on, let’s keep looking.” Lightning insisted, and turned away from him.
Maybe I should tell him…. or maybe I should just let this keep going for a while…. she thought to herself, smiling slightly.
