Can we stop this weird trend where people criticize and belittle queer people who use specific terms to describe identity? Even to more common ones like polysexual and pansexual, I often here things like “You kids keep making up all these silly words.” or “You just want to be special snowflakes.”

Actually, no.

1. I’m a “black and white” person. I need things to quantifiable, certain, and specific. I don’t like to lump myself into a group that isn’t quite who I am or is inaccurate to me.

2. Language is constantly expanding and evolving. Besides, who writes the dictionaries? Straight, white men. Chew on that.

So yes, polysexual is a legitimate sexual orientation, and it’s how I identify.
