Just filled out my health insurance forms!
yeah!!! fucking around with health insurance forms!!!!
I hate when people complain about “oh health forms are stupid they want my biological sex instead of my gender!!!!” or “they only have male or female!!!”
There’s a reason for that, you dumb fucks, and they’re referring to biological sex
Different health risks are present in different sexes, and whatever gender is in your head does not change the fact that if you were born female, you have a higher risk for certain cancers and osteoporosis, and if you were born male you have a higher risk for heart disease and often a shorter lifespan than a female.
In other words, your biological sex is an important factor in health and health insurance, and your special snowflake status doesn’t change that.
Coulda said it nicer but it’s true; it’s about health.
No. There gets a point where nice doesn’t work. There’s too many stupid ass angsty teens on here that are gonna get themselves seriously hurt or sick because they wanna be a special fucking snowflake. Lemme tell you a thing. Doctors don’t give a flying fuck what you identify as. All they want to know is do you have two X chromosomes or an XY? Because cancer and lupus and certain medicines don’t give a flying fuck what pronouns you use. This is about your fucking LIFE. stop being angsty for TWELVE SECONDS because when you’re in an ambulance or going into cardiac arrest or whatever the situation may be, it’s ESSENTIAL that you get your head out of your ass long enough to tell them your BIOLOGICAL SEX that you were BORN WITH. It literally may save your life.
This is so important.
…accurate. So so so accurate.
male and female isn’t so simple though, like you knowing my sex is female does NOT actually tell you what my chromosomes are like that poster is suggesting because chromosomes and genitalia don’t always match, nor are XX and XY the only matches that happen. a lot of folks are intersex and sex is way way more complicated than the average joe believes.
furthermore, forms need to stop phrasing questions like this. it doesn’t ask if it’s looking for sex and gender. folks complaining about the OP’s response are assuming the question is seeking the respondent’s sex, but I’m betting the survey folks assume they’re asking both sex and gender which is a problem. they simply aren’t the same.
and doctors SHOULD care how you identify. different gender identities are also at higher risk for different health conditions. in a similar vein, I don’t make sure my OBGYN knows I’m bisexual because I want to be a special snowflake, I do it so she knows what kind of sex I am/might be having and can provide care accordingly.
also these are health insurance forms! they’re not going to a doctor! they’re going to a company that deals with bills and has nothing to do with the care you actually receive. the OP has every opportunity left in the world to make sure their doctor knows everything about their bod (though probably not their chromosomes since hardly anyone takes that test)
and saying someone wanting their gender identity to be respected is wanting to be a special snowflake is really really gross
so really this just reads as trying to one up non-binary folks and it isn’t accurate or productive. how about instead of yelling at people and being douchey, talking about how all forms could have more trans inclusive language that would simultaneously make people comfortable and at ease (so you know they actually seek health care, which a lot of trans folks don’t b/c of stuff like this & harassment that’s rampant in the medical field, putting them at huge risk!) and help doctors provide the best care.
