Did you know that they train service dogs specifically for narcolepsy? I just found this out and I am floored.
Narcolepsy service dogs make sure their handler wakes up on time, can detect microsleeps and wake them up from them, can predict cataplexy episodes and even be trained to use their back as a place for the handler to slump over instead of taking a hard fall to the ground. They can be trained to remind their handler to take stimulant medications and even alert them of certain times of day just to keep them grounded, as well as nudge the handler every so often to make sure they’re attentive. They even are equipped to handle panic attacks since many people with narcolepsy have depression and anxiety from the EDS and cataplexy.
I am so upset that I don’t have money- service dogs are expensive. But could you imagine? The thought makes me want to cry in a good way. Being able to be out in public and not be constantly afraid of a cataplexy episode because the dog would give me a warning if it sensed I was slipping out of it, being able to go through my daily routine and not miss half of it due to microsleeps, being able to have that reassurance that I’ll be woken up or if I start to panic that I’ll be consoled. I seriously am blown away by how much easier and safer my life would be if I had a service dog? I don’t talk about it a lot but honestly? Narcolepsy has huge consequences and it really does make a massive impact on how I’m able to live. I’ll make a big old post about it at some point, probably, but I just… damn. I just wish I had the money because just thinking about this makes me want a service animal so badly. My life could be so much easier, so much safer.
At the very least, its incredible that narcolepsy service dogs exist in the first place.
I didn’t notice it till now but when watching the show again, it’s kinda obvious. Let’s start with Ed.
Ed’s abuse seems to be more emotional abuse. His parents spoil his sister Sarah, while Ed lives in the basement. They also seem to take Sarah’s side more often. These can be signs of parental favoritism. I mean, look at Ed’s room.
now look at sarah’s:
Sarah’s room is much larger, cleaner and more comfortable than Ed’s. Sure, Ed’s a messy guy but you’d think a good parent would start showing SOME concern when their child’s room is as bad as Ed’s.
Now to Double D. His abuse is more about neglect and lack of affection from his parents. Not only are his parents never home but they communicate through sticky notes they leave around the house. and what are on those notes?
Chores. Double D’s parents seem to treat him more like a maid that cleans the place while they’re away most of the time, instead of their son.
and finally, Eddy. His is the most obvious.
While not a parent, Eddy has been shown to be physically and verbally abused by his older brother. This was revealed in the series finale.
I can’t believe I actually missed this until now.
This also shows another difference between them and the rest of the kids in the cul-de-sac.
Jimmy’s parent’s don’t seem to mind that their son has more feminine interests, buying him things like an easy bake oven and letting him have a feminine room and stuffed animals. Kevin’s dad constantly showers him in gifts. Nazz lives a carefree and happy life. Johnny’s parents seem to be tree-huggers(they have arbor day parties and bring nature inside as a christmas tradition) and don’t find it strange that their son talks to inanimate objects and Rolf has a close, very large and traditional family.
These are kids that most likely wouldn’t understand what the eds go through. That could be another reason why the eds are outcasts in the show.
So everyone’s talking about Rose/Pearl’s relationship and such, but I’d like to point out another interesting thing about this episode.
When Pearl makes holo-rose, she’s recreating the scene. She repeats it, word for word. Every expression Rose made, every shift of a curl. And as we all know, Pearl is an extreme perfectionist. She wouldn’t change a detail of this scene.
So what am I getting at? Pearl’s posture.
Pearl is down on one knee. Heck, she’s GENUFLECTING. Everything about her posture and expression illustrates extreme respect, and this is before they are even allies in battle.
My next point is Rose’s Flag. It could very well be a revolution flag meant to represent the crystal gems, it’s true. But take a look at it. It’s 100% rose quartz. None of the other gems are represented on it in any way. Don’t you think it would be a little out of character for Rose, who’s all about loving everyone and everything, to make their flag all about her? It seems a little vain for this selfless gem we’ve been shown.
So here’s my theory; Rose Quartz was gem Royalty. Or at least held a very high rank. All of the gems respect her unconditionally (beyond that, they all seem positively enamored with her) she has whole armories, she has an insignia on a FLAG. It would make sense that Rose would be an incredibly important gem. As far as we know Rose was the only gem with healing abilities. Even Lapis Lazuli seemes shocked to hear that Steven had healing powers. Rose could have held the life of her entire species in her hands, which would make her pretty damn important. So if the gems do come back to earth, what will we learn about Rose, and who she was before she chose earth?
What if Rose Quartz isn’t actually Quartz?
Look at her gem. and well,
this is the pinkest piece of gemstone cut rose quartz i could find on a cursory search. See how its smokey and not really “pink” like Rose’s gem?
So I started reading Hot Gimmick and I hate myself because I love it. .-.
Pro-tip: Don’t read it, it sucks and I love it and also TW for sexual harassment and stuff because it’s on par with Peach Girl in that it deals with a lot of that.
