Atypical depression is characterized by feeling like people don’t like you.

It’s less easy to spot than typical depression and docs overlook it sometimes. It’s also much harder to recognize as a symptom than, say, the flu-like memory stuff and aches or sleep changes.  It also tends to respond to different treatment than typical depression, so it can seem like treatment’s just not working.  Also,  getting reality checks from your support network feels weird.  Easier to say “am I sleeping more?” than “are you mad?  Am I irritating you?”  Also, sometimes they are mad and you’re depressed!  It can mess with you.
