This reminds me of that picture I saw of someone at an AIDS protest in the 80s that had a jacket that said, “When I die leave me on the capitol steps” or something like that

This is American artist and activist David Wojnarowicz. ACT UP scattered the ashes of at least 18 of their members on the white house lawn in a series of actions starting in 1992, with the chant “Bringing our dead to your door / We won’t take it anymore”. This was done to protest the government’s "refusal to pass the AIDS Cure Act, inaction on drug profiteering, and unwillingness to establish a federal needle exchange program),”

There was even a point where they brought the actual corpse of the founder of the Washington chapter of ACT UP, Steve Michael, (as per his request before death) to the white house after he died of AIDS. His casket was solemnly carried for a half hour to the white house gates, his partner being one of the leaders of the procession. Once set down, the casket was opened for his mother to stroke Steve’s forehead and say her last words to him. A black flag with a pink triangle was laid on the casket, and the surrounding protesters proclaimed Bill Clinton’s responsibility for the lives taken by AIDS.

Once again, politicians are willingly allowing the citizens they supposedly represent to die. ACT UP was one of the most in-your-face activist movements to ever exist. My favorite example is when they stormed into a production studio and disrupted the CBS Evening News live. As this was during the time of the Gulf War, they had this message to say once they were in front of the cameras: “fight AIDS, not Arabs.”

Gaining rights is almost exclusively achieved through aggressive activism. Those who spout “maybe if you were calm about it we’d listen” are fucking liars who want to silence a movement. As long as you bring no harm to others: be loud, in-your-face, and potent as you can be in your protesting.
