PERSONA DANCING ALL OVER MY SOUL
"I generally just tumble around."

I really like the term “sexual debut” instead of “virginity”, honestly. I first heard it a long time ago, but I saw the term on my dash again today and it reminded me.

After all, “virginity” is such a stigmatized word with many connotations, and the entire notion of it is just a construct of society, as nothing physically changes in you or “breaks” your first time. Plus, the way society views virginity, we find a way to shame people who don’t care about it and do care about it.

Plus, the term “sexual debut” is the most cool-sounding thing ever. It makes me think of like pop idols and how some people are just ready to bust out and want to be famous and in the limelight and share their amazingness with the world. Some people want to wait, maybe to find the right audience, to figure out their genre/style, etc. And some people don’t want to debut; maybe they would rather pursue another hobby. Some people simply don’t care about being a pop idol, some are repulsed by the idea of being so vulnerable, some people hate pop music– whatever.

It comes off as such a neutral term, and because it is such a broad term with no clear stigma or connotation, I think we should all start using this instead of continuing to acknowledge to asinine concept of virginity.
