TW for Game Grumps: Super Mario Maker Episode 6

I just watched the episode from a day or two ago and immediately was made uncomfortable when Danny made a joke about suicide. Anyone who is triggered by suicidal mention, especially with the recent tragedy involving Daniel from Cyndago, please be careful.

“Here’s a tip- kill yourself!” -Dan

I won’t deny that Danny makes incredibly problematic statements on a regular basis- I cringe at some of the “jokes” he makes. But at the same time, I see that he has improved over time. He still has a long way to go, but I notice him correcting himself on some occasions in newer Game Grumps episodes. He’s human, and he’s still growing.

That doesn’t excuse when he does say problematic things. You still have a right to be offended, to dislike him- that’s your right and I won’t blame anyone who doesn’t like him because of this. Though I guess my opinion is that it’s impossible for someone to not be problematic- he’s on a platform where his everyday conversations are being recorded. He’s distracted with a video game, rambling on whatever comes to mind. He’s a human who still has a lot of problematic shit to unlearn.

And as for the lesbophobic remark on Attitude City- yeah, that was bad. He shouldn’t have made that joke. That wasn’t a joke, really. It was a queerphobic remark against lesbians. And if you’re against him for it, that’s your prerogative.

In the end, criticism against him is valid, but I personally am still able to be a fan of his while acknowledging that he’s a human being who says problematic things, like most people on this earth.

I was rewatching Game Grumps play Mike Tyson’s Punchout since now they’re playing the Wii version.

I remember when Danny first came on the show, and I wasn’t sure if I’d like him.

Then I heard Pizza Pasta.

I was sold.
