Can we just talk about how TD got really dark, really fast? Yes, there’s always been violence in TD, but it’s been slapstick humor. This season we have TMO arising, and he just brought a whole new level to the villainy on this show.
I’ll use the example a lot of other people are bringing up—in episode 5 when he crept up behind Zoey with a giant branch. He had the intention of hitting her on the head and sending her down the cliff. He had no motivation other than he just wanted people to get hurt—you could argue that he targeted Zoey specifically because he wants Mike to suffer (I have a headcanon that the more upset and depressed Mike becomes, the easier it is for TMO to take control, but that’s off-topic).
Up until now, “villains” are people who hurt or used people to get further in the game- a very human concept. However, now we have TMO. He has expressed no desire in winning. What he has made clear is that he loves chaos, wants to terrorize and hurt others with no other reason than it amuses him, and in his own words “If I have it my way […] everybody loses.” This is the mentality that is expressed in some abusers (be it of animals or of people), and even some murderers. People in insane asylums share his thinking.
Let’s just mull that over.
