Been working on my Gym Leader AU self. ouo
Hometown: Laverre City, Kalos
Starter Pokemon: Ralts; while on his way to Professor Sycamore’s lab, Jack realized something was following him. He turned to find a Ralts who was curious about him- or rather, it turned out that the Ralts could smell the Nutella in his bag. Jack shared the treat with him, and the Ralts immediately became attached, if only for more food. Ralts followed him all the way to Lumiose, and has been with him since as his true starter Pokemon, even though the Pokemon he got from Sycamore was a Fennekin.
Badge: Inuition Badge
Type: Psychic
Gym: Is actually a large, empty room with bookshelves lining every wall. Jack’s Musharna, Lacerta, fills the room with Dream Mist, conjuring a maze for the challenger to navigate. Jack takes a nap while the challenger goes through the maze, and his dreams determine the obstacles that pop up in the maze.

I think my gym would be a maze created by Musharna’s dream mist- in reality it would be an empty room, but the pink haze would form fantastical corridors and obstacles for the challenger to clear before actually making it to the back of the room, where I’d probably be napping and waiting.

Gym Leader Jack
Type: Psychic

Companion Pokemon: Munna
Team: Gallade, Gothitelle, Gardevoir, Metagross, Delphox, Espeon
About: Although they are a Psychic-type leader, they actually aren’t Psychic. At least, not int he traditional sense. Jack is a scholar who has been studying psychology and behavioral science for quite some time- to them, being a Psychic is less about mind reading and more about having a deepened awareness of the mind, especially one’s own.
Jack’s companion Pokemon, Munna, is both a companion and a service Pokemon. Jack has narcolepsy, and their Munna has been trained to monitor their dreams and sleep-wake cycle, and even communicate with Jack via dreams. Because of this, Jack has been known to be able to battle while sleeping, with Munna being the mediator to allow this.
Battle: Jack’s signature Pokemon is their Gallade, which hits fast and hard, often before the opponent even has a chance to prepare themselves. The team as a whole is compromised of heavy hitters, yet many of them are still able to maintain a defensive stance when needed, like their Metagross.

If I were a gym leader, I’d be one of the only Psychic-type specialists that isn’t a psychic.
My motif would be that although I’m not Psychic, I have a strong ability to understand and connect with others because of my education in Psychology and behavioral studies, as well as my introspective nature. It would be my belief that being Psychic is less about mind reading and more about a deep self-awareness that allows us to understand other people and Pokemon as a whole.
