Me analyzing Pokemon as a hobby: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire canonically validate the many worlds theory, opening up an entirely new discourse in regards to the timeline of the franchise. We now are examining not only when each game takes place, but in which timeline or universe the game takes place. This was a rather brilliant method to retcon newer functions such as Mega Evolution while also evading the need to make every game fit into a single, consistent timeline.
