Not all white people are “bad”. But all white people have privilege, and contribute collectively to the actions such as cultural appropriation, discrimination, and racism. If anything, the white people that are the most dangerous are the ones whining “not ALL white people”, because they see their own personal image a more important thing to be protected than the rights and lives of POC, thus exemplifying that they are, indeed, exactly the opposite of the facade they parade about with.
Trying to deny your privilege will only cause you to further contribute to an institution of systematic discrimination and racism.
Hell, even though I’m mixed, I am white passing, and therefore I have privilege and need to pipe the fuck down so I don’t speak above others’ experiences when they should have the podium. I need to mind my privilege, and sometimes I need to be reminded.
We’re all human, but if you indignantly stomp your feet, cross your arms, and huff about how you’re not like all those bad white racists and you’re good and you have an Asian friend and you’re so accepting- guess what. We’re more wary of you than that proud racist down the road.

It pisses me off when people say “minorities are starting to outnumber white people! :(” because, like, that’s only if you add up EVERY minority. White people can be so self-centered that they “other” ever other race into one big clump.

A child was forced to lay with her dead counterparts and play dead. A five year old little girl had to lay with her lifeless, blood covered family and stop herself from breathing, blinking, moving to keep herself from getting shot. 10 people were shot, 9 were shot to death. People lost their family. Their friends. But this scum gets an excuse? He gets defense for his deplorable actions? He planned this for MONTHS. He shot down a church and said it was racially motivated. He said, “you rape our women. You’re taking over our country. You have to go.” His head was clear. This is not an insanity plea. He was not losing his mind. He planned it for a long time and voiced his opinions. He supported segregation. He openly hated black people. He is a raging racist. This was not caused by some pills. Pills do not make people racist. Pills don’t make people shoot multiple people in a church. Pills do not make you support segregation. Racism isn’t caused by anything but yourself. Get this shit out of my face. This is perpetuating racism. This is white privilege. This is nothing but wrong. It started when I was in kindergarten, and I was so proud I did not have to go to Bingo class, unlike my friends, because I could speak good English -

I am lucky. I speak the fluent, accentless English of newscasters, the dialect spoken by the children of immigrants, that we learned not from our parents but rather from watching Sesame Street and other things on tv.
Last year, a white facebook friend of mine posted, “In order to celebrate Chinese New Year, me talk rike chinese man arr day.”
And then told me that she was “sorry I was offended” and “she didn’t mean anything by it” when I (nicely, sweetly) told her that that shit was not okay. She said that she saw it the same as doing an accent, like Irish. Or British. Or Italian. (for bonus points, she even said that she has lots of Asian co-workers and friends, and LOVES Asian people, and so is not a racist.)
And when one of my white friends gets drunk, he thinks his “Asian accent” is hilarious.
And I was told by a coworker about the time my Asian coworker mispronounced “Barroway” as “Bwawwoway” and how hilarious it was.

No, my misguided fb friend, the “Asian accent” is not an actual imitation of an accent, comparable to your bad British/Irish/Italian - but rather a mockery of Asian people and their supposed inability to speak English. It is the perpetuation of the image of Asian people as perpetual foreigners in America.
Like that time when my family was at an Italian restaurant, and we were speaking to my father in Cantonese, and a drunken white lady said very loudly, “GOD when you come to this country at least learn the language!”
Or when my father was pulled over for speeding, and although he said “what’s the problem, officer?” the first thing the state trooper said was, “Do you speak English?”
Your fake “Asian accents” are not harmless and silly, because at the root of the joke, it says - you, you are stupid. You cannot speak English. You are Other. You do not belong.
my parents have been in this country for 30 years. They have been American citizens for 30 years.
And they are very self-conscious of their imperfect English, afraid that it makes them look ignorant, knowing that it marks them as immigrants. That, after 30 years, you can still be told (in not so many words) that you do not belong.
The Cultural Revolution started in China when my father was 13. He was pulled out of school and, later, sent to work in the fields. (He escaped to Hong Kong when he was 18, but that is another story for another time.)
When my father came to this country, he had a middle school education and did not speak a lick of English. He worked as a busboy at a Chinese restaurant, the evening shift that ran until 3 or 4 in the morning, and went to school during the day.
It took my father ten years to earn his bachelor’s degree. He is now an engineer.

When my mother came to this country, she spoke very little English. She got a job as an entry level clerk. Over the years she earned one promotion after another. She is now management at a large federal agency, and manages funds for the whole state.

And my father didn’t understand why his coworkers said, “flied lice, flied lice!” to him over and over and laughed.
And my father is still afraid to speak in a professional setting, even when he has ideas.
And my mother still checks and double checks her professional e-mails with me, for fear of mockery from the same people she manages.
And people don’t understand why I can’t take a harmless joke. Why I don’t think that shit is funny.

I’d love to see these “you have no right to complain about what developers put in games” guys if in the next installment Master Chief was gay, the Call of Duty protagonist was Muslim, or Samus Aran was openly and vocally feminist. Do you really think their little Reddit dungeons would be awash with internally consistent statements like “well, it’s art, guys - we really don’t have the right to complain”? No. They would lose their fucking shit. They would send death threats and rape threats to every single developer and media outlet they can think of. They would protest, doxx, demean and attack anyone with a dissenting opinion. They would burn this whole medium to the fucking ground before letting something like that go unchallenged.
And yet they see no irony in portraying people who want better representation as the ones who are whiny, entitled, emotional and perennially catered to.
Quvenzhané Wallis is literally being bullied. Grown ass adults “pretend” they can’t pronounce her name or don’t even try. Grown ass adults called her a cunt in some kind of “satire” crap. This little girl is Black and talented and they hate it.
I don’t remember an 11 year old Academy Award Winner/nominee Anna Paquin being jokingly called a cunt. I don’t remember hearing people confused over her last name. I doubt Tatum O’Neal at 10 years old as the youngest Academy Award winner was being made fun of by adults.
I guess Black kids just happen to get differential treatment in Hollywood. I mean Quvenzhané was nominated for a Golden Globe and Academy Award at eleven and nine years old while some adult actors have failed to get one for years. Antiblackness is not an attractive quality to have and is very pathetic.
TBH I don’t know why people care about Annie being black in the new movie; it’s not like anyone bats an eyelash when POC characters are constantly whitewashed.
Also can we just point out that the white cishet psychology teacher at school used the n-word, r-slur, and homophobic slurs repeatedly in her class today and insisted it was okay because she wasn’t using them insultingly, she was “just saying them”.
