why did being a weeaboo become acceptable again

(applies to all you weebs making jokes about “senpai” and “kouhai” and calling each other ___-kun or ___-sama or whatecer)

but japanese use english as a joke!: english has been used as a tool of colonisation and oppression, placed in the hands of white colonisers. after having bombs dropped on civilian cities and japanese-american diaspora being interned we should have the right to make fun of america sometimes.

but it’s out of appreciation!: if you appreciate a culture you’re not part of you don’t make fun of it

but it’s just an anime stereotype!: anime’s japanese media made for japanese people and if you make fun of anime’s language use in this way you’re making fun of japanese culture

but i’m learning japanese!: then speak it in full sentences

but (japanese person i know) says it’s okay!: that’s all fine and dandy but that doesn’t make the feelings of me or other people, including my family, just go away

i just want some culture of my own, i don’t feel like i have any: culture is literally what happens when humans interact with each other, if you’ve ever been in contact with another human being then you have a weird sort of culture. the fact that you can read this means you have culture. culture’s kind of like accents in that way

if you want to take part in japanese culture go to a festival held by japanese people (if you cosplay there i will find your bed and put breadcrumbs in it each night), read books, learn the language. just be respectful about it, culture is the way people live, not a plaything

good resource blog for this kind of thing: thisisnotjapan.tumblr.com

Real talk: Do not cosplay to a Japanese festival. That’s just disrespectful and all sorts of wrong.

Unpopular Opinion Alert: I actually strongly dislike Heather from Total Drama.

Character-development wise, she’s a great character.

Otherwise? I find her to be kinda be the most boring of the antagonists (except for Mal, he was so cliche he wins last place IMHO.)

Yeah, I’ll acknowledge that she had decent development of a character (not the best I’ve seen in a cartoon, but still pretty good by today’s standards) but just as a character, be it at the beginning or end of her arc, I find her detestable. O3O

Seattle Announces $15 Minimum Wage, Highest In The U.S. | Think Progress

Seattle will raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour over the coming years under a deal brokered by Mayor Ed Murray and blessed by labor and business groups alike, city leaders announced Thursday afternoon.

The new pay floor will phase in at different speeds for businesses of different sizes, but all employers will have to meet the $15 minimum wage by the end of the decade. Businesses with more than 500 employees nationwide will have a three-year phase-in period, while smaller employers get five years to ratchet up their payscales.

After reaching $15 an hour, the city’s minimum wage will automatically climb by 2.4 percent each year regardless of the rate of inflation. Even among states with relatively strong minimum wage laws, automatic increases are uncommon. Thursday’s deal will make Seattle the national leader on municipal minimum wage laws. Washington currently has the highest pay floor of any state at $9.32 per hour.

The deal was a long time coming, with Murray first indicating he wanted to establish a $15 floor back in September during the mayoral campaign. Murray created the 24-member advisory group that crafted the compromise package back in December, and the group of local business owners, restaurateurs, and labor leaders has been grinding toward an agreement for the past four months.

Approval from restaurant owners is especially noteworthy given the deal’s provisions for tipped workers. Tips can only be counted toward worker minimum pay for the next five years. After that, the separate minimum hourly pay rates for tipped and non-tipped workers will disappear, and all employees citywide will have to be paid $15 hourly or more.

An activist coalition called 15 Now led by the lone socialist member of the City Council,Kshama Sawant, has pledged to put an immediate wage hike before city voters in November if the deal falls short of the group’s goals. Another coalition, 15 For Seattle, issued a press release Thursday saying that “many of the coalitions 100+ progressive members have already endorsed” the deal but that others “are taking the Mayor’s proposal back to their organizations for review and approval.” Sawant’s ballot initiative would let employers with fewer than 250 workers phase in higher wages over three years but impose the $15 rate immediately for larger businesses.

Sawant is one of two members of the working group who is opposing the deal announced Thursday, according to a source close to the negotiations. The other is Craig Dawson, the owner of a payments processing company called Retail Lockbox. The head of the city’s Chamber of Commerce is abstaining. But the 21 votes in favor include representatives from two separate chapters of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) chapter, and the MLK Labor Council, as well as local hotel owners, restaurant owners, a pair of Councilmen, and the venture capitalist Nick Hanauer, who has made a name for himself in recent years as a wealthy champion of economic policies that focus on the middle class rather than on business owners and the wealthy.

Editors Note: While I see this as progress for Seattle’s poor — albeit reformist in nature being that we still are beholden to a wage-slavery system — because it will put food on people’s tables and roofs over their heads, I am conflicted about what this sort of platform says about socialist policies moving forward. Sawant opposes this measure, so I am curious to see what her next move will be. “Better” capitalism cannot be our end-goal.

SEATTLE NEEDS THIS MINIMUM WAGE HIKE . MOST OF THE JOBS HERE ARE MINIMUM WAGE. THEY ALSO HAVE WAYYYYYY TOO MANY HOMELESS HERE. WAYYYYYY TOOO MANY. SO SEATTLE YOUR NEXT JOB IS TO CREATE JOBS AND MAKE SOME DAMNED SIDEWALKS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD . SMH

Uh actually I hate to be that guy, but this is going to hurt small business so drastically. I live in a suburb not far from Seattle, and although we are not yet under the jurisdiction of the $15/hour minimum wage, they are going to try and pass it here next.

My parents own a small restaurant, and here’s the thing. They’re fearing for their lives, because if they raise minimum wage that high, they’re going to be forced to lay off at least a third of their employees. They’ll only keep the bare minimum, only allow full-time, and may have to stop offering some bonuses to their employees just to stay in business.

I don’t know how this will effect big business, but many small business owners are screwed, and will be forced to limit their job openings.

This is terrible.

Everyone should make a living wage, but this is not how we should try to make it happen.

I think if you don’t realize the issues in even your favorite things, you’ve got a problem.

Like One Piece’s art or Kamen Rider’s female issues or Tales’s recent almost rehashing of their old plots.

Does that mean I don’t like them? Heck no! They’re my favorites!

Does this mean I don’t make fun of them? Heck no! They definitely need made fun of!

Amen to this!

Always be cognizant of how something is problematic. You can enjoy something that is problematic while still recognizing the issue.

Ex:// Haganai is a fantastic anime but the fan service goes overboard and some of the jokes can be offensive and/or in bad taste. I still find it hilarious as all get out and enjoy the series, but I wish certain matter of it were accounted for. //shrug//

If you reblog or post screamers, you are an asshole and I hope you step on a Lego today.

I really love Amethyst because she’s fat and clearly eats a ton of junk food, but other characters don’t treat her like her weight is something that holds her back. She still kicks ass and saves the world with the other gems, and isn’t less athletic because of her body type. Not only that, but she can bust some sick moves on the dance floor.

In general I just love the diverse body types in Steven Universe, whether is be Pearl’s tall and slender build, Amethyst’s short and fat physique, or Garnet’s tall and muscled body.

Real talk, I have a thing about apologizing. When I was a kid and I did something wrong my dad would yell at me or just be quietly disappointed (which was worse in my opinion) until I apologized, but when I did apologize he would tell me I didn’t mean it and I actually needed to say sorry and mean it so I’d just keep saying sorry until he finally just nodded or crossed his arms and was like “okay”.

So please never comment on how I apologize a lot.

Okay now listen. I use anon a lot because I feel more comfortable and don't want to draw attention to myself, however, even I don't appreciate when people go on anon to talk trash about someone even if they don't mean for it to really sound that way. Now all three writers do an amazing job at each episode and they are super open to listen if you have some worries about how your character is written. After all the hard work and time they give, please, try to respect them.

THANK YOU. ;O;

This really means a lot to me, dude. <3

I know the last anon didn’t mean what they said as an attack or anything, but it just… it’s frustrating. It’s frustrating when you put a lot of effort into something for the sake of other people (and because it’s super fun to do!) and then someone anonymously criticizes it like that.

I cannot stress enough that if any of you don’t like how I portray you character (and this goes for the other writers too), tell us! Just a respectful little message like, “Hey, you guys are doing cool but the thing is my character really doesn’t do [x]. Instead, can you make sure they are/do [y], [z], [a]? Thanks!” and I’ll fix it in the next episode I write. In the end this is for you guys and I want you to have fun, though it’s no fun to write when people don’t communicate and just complain.

Long story short, thank you Claire! I love ya. ;u;

Anonymous asks:
My OC's potential was completely wasted in TDC. They were not written how I wanted, and it disappointing me. So many other characters are done great justice and for what? If everyone was given equal attention, but I guess that never happens. It's just the luck of the draw, I guess (or rather, the luck of whether the writers like you or not). Also, you're not gonna get to see the interesting sides of the charries if you don't RP with them. I RP when I can, but I guess it's not enough.

Whoa. Hey now.

1) If we’re not portraying your character correctly, you need to communicate that to us. We will not know unless you let us know. We have two or three muns that respectfully and kindly gave us pointers on writing their characters when they felt we strayed too far from their character. We’re not mind readers, and we do all we can. You need to let us know if we’re way off with your character.

2) I can guarantee that myself and the writers don’t play favorites. Speaking for myself, there was no character that I didn’t like, and although I’m not perfect, I made a conscious effort to include everyone and give them decent screen time, especially in earlier episodes where there were twenty or more characters to keep track of in the span of a few pages.

We’re humans. We do our best; but we put in a lot of effort into these chapters to make it a fun and enjoyable experience for you all. Again, speaking only for myself, each full chapter takes about three hours for me to write on average. My longest chapter was thirty pages on a word document. I’m not complaining, but I’m just trying to show you how much effort really goes into these chapters.

If you have a problem with how your character was portrayed or the writing in general, you need to come off of anon and tell us directly instead of complaining anonymously. That honestly stings as someone who pours so much time and effort into this fan project.
