PERSONA DANCING ALL OVER MY SOUL
"I generally just tumble around."

I go to sleep wondering why grown-ups would want to make a movie that pokes fun at people who can’t help themselves. And I wonder if they still would if there was somebody in their own family like me.

–Med Head, as told by James Patterson and Hal Friedman

I’m only about 40 pages in, but it’s fantastic.

Context: A kid about 8 years old is growing up with Tourette’s syndrome, among other problems. He has rampant tics that control his life and cause endless problems. One night, he saw a movie on TV where they were making fun of a woman with Tourette’s that had the cursing tic.

So today we watched “The Butterfly Circus” in Chemistry (it had nothing to do with Chemistry, shut up), and it is such an amazing short movie.

It’s only about 20-30 minutes long, but I STRONGLY encourage that you watch it.

It’s a film that takes place during the Great Depression, following the life of a disabled man who is used as a sideshow in a circus. It’s a really powerful short film, and it is depressing in the start, but it’s worth it, I promise.

Bonus Point: The second main character is a POC, and it’s very positive representation. <3

TW: ableism ((there is a little bit of slut-shaming in a flashbacks))
