@people outside the LGBT+ community

In regards to my previous post about the general public being unsafe for LGBT+ folk, here’s some receipts that I cross-referenced with different sites to affirm credibility.

And here’s something important to consider: YOU contribute to this even if you’re not stabbing and shooting LGBT+ people. YOU contribute to this every time you ignore someone’s preferred name and pronouns, every time you complain about how LGBT+ people are so overly sensitive and need to “not make everything about their sexual orientation”, every time you roll your eyes about pride parades or protests for more LGBT+ rights. YOUR complacency contributes to all of the fatalities and hate crimes detailed below. YOUR complacency allows this violence to continue. YOUR complacency makes the world an unsafe space for LGBT+ people to simply exist.

This article is the basis, describing a lot of the history and current events of LGBT+ hate crimes. If you only read one of these resources, let it be this one.

And here is the FBI’s hate crime statistics for 2015. Hate crimes against LGBT+ folk comprise about 20% of all hate crimes from 2015. I checked 2014 out of curiosity, and it was about the same, give or take a percent.

This is a detailed breakdown of the Orlando shooting that occurred last June- the largest mass shooting in American history that took the lives of over 50 people.

It’s quite lengthy, but this document details several case studies and narratives of transgender people who were murdered in acts of hate in recent years. The information presented includes up to 2015 accounts.

Police Shoot Unarmed Man and his 6-Year-Old Autistic Son in the Head Multiple Times Killing Son
As of Thursday morning, at least 834 people had been shot and killed by American police officers so far this year.
Six-year-old Jeremy David Mardis is the youngest among them.
The autistic first-grader was sitting in the front passenger seat of a car being driven by his father, Chris Few, in Marksville, La., when city marshals “allegedly” attempted to serve the man a warrant about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. But when checked with the County Clerks office, no warrant could be found in the database.
Police claim Few fled, eventually turning down a dead-end street. And that Few then attempted to back his vehicle out, striking officers’ cruisers, prompting an exchange of gunfire between the officers and driver that left him hospitalized and his son dead.
However, An official briefed on the shooting said that Few was unarmed when two officers opened fire, shooting between 13 and 18 bullets combined. Five of the officers’ bullets pierced Jeremy’s body, Mayeux said, with the two fatal shots hitting him in the head and chest. That official said it is unclear if the shooting was captured on camera.
The police involved in the shooting all had criminal records including rape.
After the officers names were released, It didn’t take long for local press to uncover extensive rap sheets for both officers:
Derrick Stafford, the officer indicted for rape, also has five pending civil suits against him for various complaints of excessive force, including breaking the arm of a 14-year-old girl on a school bus as well as assaulting and pepper-spraying a 15-year-old boy at a Fourth of July celebration.
Norris Greenhouse Jr., the other officer implicated in the murder of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis, is named in several of the same suits for acting in tandem with Stafford.
Louisiana State Police announced on Wednesday that they had launched an investigation into the incident at the request of the Marksville Police Department.

somebody deliberately poisoned the air on the 9th floor of the hotel with chlorine gas at about 12:40 in the morning. thousands of people were evacuated from the hotel (not all of them were there for FurFest) and nineteen people wound up in the hospital as a result of the poisoning (source)

There was a school shooting two towns over from me today.

Two are dead, six are in the hospital, and three of those six are in critical condition.

I called in to work and came home instead.

I know this doesn’t really affect me…. but I used to have a really bad fear of leaving the house. I’ve pretty much overcome this fear, but when certain big things like this happened I can’t go out in public for about a day or so. So… I’m taking tonight to rest since the ACT and TOLO are tomorrow.

According to a teacher at J.Law that my mom knows, she was apparently an honors student and was extremely motivated and had her plans for college all thought out. She wanted to go somewhere in life and now that was all cut short because some guy couldn’t handle rejection. This is tragic, and my heart goes out to her friends and family. I NEVER want to hear someone say that women have no reason to be afraid of men ever again.
