PERSONA DANCING ALL OVER MY SOUL
"I generally just tumble around."
Citrine: I'm home you guy-
//There is shattered glass everywhere and what looks to be jam or something to that effect splatters all around. Watermelon Tourmaline is standing in the middle of the mess with their scythe in hand, staring at Citrine.//
Watermelon Tourmaline: I can expl-
Citrine: //walks back out the door//
chakkmon asks:
Can you tell me about Charoite and Emerald?

Yes, of course!

Charoite is my gemsona, and Emerald belongs to fuzzy-smiles, for starters. ^-^

Charoite is very short ((about Amethyst’s height)) and admittedly can be short-tempered as well. They use both he/they pronouns but are somehow irked by she/her so those aren’t wise to use for them. They were formed in the kindergarten but didn’t come out as robust or strong as they were designed to, so they just sort of wandered off unnoticed, as a defective product. Charoite is fascinated by things they don’t understand, and always learning more. They also have a bit of a Napoleon complex, fueled by Citrine’s friendly teasing. Charoite uses a scythe that they can also stand on by sticking the blade into the ground. Their gem is on their left hand.

Emerald is a Homeworld Gem who went rogue during the gem war because they felt like they didn’t belong anywhere. They are fairly easygoing at first, if not quite shy towards those the don’t know well. They met Charoite, who was fascinated at the thought of a planet full of gems. Charoite made Emerald feel so unique, and the two bonded quite a bit before becoming inseparable. To this day, they form Watermelon Tourmaline for both fun and fighting. Emerald also uses a scythe for their weapon, and their gem is on their chest. Emerald, once close to someone, is very snarky and quite a dork, but has a huge heart. Also, they would have a total boner for Jasper if they met her.

Aquamarine: Let's fuse it up, Char-Char!
Charoite: Wait, really?
Aquamarine: Yeah, why not? ;3
Citrine: //breaks down the door// AQUAMARINE YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
Aquamarine: ???
Citrine: What if you fuse with Charoite and you get shorter? //snide grin//
Charoite: THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN AND YOU KNOW IT. ;;;;
Aquamarine: //twirls in// Heyyyyyyy did you cuties miss me? ;3
Citrine: Where even were you?
Aquamarine: Oh you know, this and that, here and there....~
Emerald: //peering over the couch// Did you bring me a souvenir?
Aquamarine: No, but-
Emerald: //slinks down the couch// Then I don't care.

Citrine: I will fight against the morals I’ve finally realized were so horribly wrong!

Emerald: I will fight in the name of the Earth where I’ve finally found a place I can really belong!

Charoite: I will fight for the world that I’m born of, I won’t be taken down by some great unknown!

All: We will fight for everything we are and everything this planet’s shown!

Charoite: COME AT ME SCUBRLORD, I'M RIPPED.
Citrine: //draws cutlass//
Charoite: You know what, Citrine? Violence is never the answer. Let's go have some tea and talk about this.

Whenever you ask Charoite, Citrine, or Emerald what the NB Gems stands for, they’ll give you a different answer. So far, people have been told that NB stands for the following: Nasty Bananas, (g)Narly Breakdancers, Naughty Beatboxers, None (of your) Business, No….. Bruh, Never Born, Neo Ballers, “we were going to be the NBA but that was already taken here”, Now (I’m a ) Believer, Northbound (“Earthbound, actually.” Charoite interjects), Nesquick Brownies, and Naruto? Believe (it).

Charoite: Scrappy af and ready to fight.

Citrine: Actually a skilled fighter.

Emerald: A mix of the two.

Charoite tried to reform taller once, but kept passing out from the sudden high altitudes.

Sometimes Charoite stands on their scythe to try and be as tall as Citrine.

All the fusion combos of the NB Gems in one nifty photoset.

Citrine, Emerald - Prasiolite

Charoite, Citrine, Emerald - Black Opal

I actually was hypothesizing about the origins of Charoite, Emerald, and Citrine, or at least how they got together as a team. I was trying to make a parody of the extended SU theme and the lyrics I ended up with ended up being a possible explanation, I think.

I can’t confirm without Devo and Matt giving input, but here’s my theory:

Charoite was formed in the kindergarten ((being another short, dumpy, purple, vaguely aggressive gem)), while Emerald and Citrine are from Homeworld. Emerald is perhaps part of the working class or something to that effect- either way, they never felt like they belonged, and were either ostracized or just completely ignored from blending in with all the other gems and not being regarded as extraordinary. When they came to earth, they met Charoite, who was enthralled with meeting a gem not from Earth. Charoite made Emerald feel like they were unique and special, and they instantly become close friends. During the gem war, they ended up coming against Citrine, who believed the morals of homeworld to be true because that’s what they grew up with and that’s all they knew via social conditioning. Though when seeing the effects of the moral system of the Homeworld, they realized how horrible the intentions of the Homeworld gems were, and fled the battles, unable to return home after fleeing. Somehow, they ended up meeting Charoite and Emerald- Citrine tried to remain a longer at first, but Charoite //being curious and a bit socially oblivious// just sort of followed them like “well if you’re alone you could join us because we’re kind of alone here and we could be alone together!” and through gentle coercion ((emerald and charoite not leaving them alone)) Citrine joined the gang.

…or something.

Black Opal, fusion of Citrine, Charoite, and Emerald. Has a sort of gladiator aesthetic, as it so happens. I guess that’s how Citrine’s mild not-really pirate aesthetic translated into the fusion. Four arms and four eyes so there’s “nothing odd about this fusion” //that is Charoite’s pun and they will defend it to the grave// but also because they are a fairly good mix of gems with some key differences that prevent them from attaining a perfect fusion- which is hard with three gems anyways.

NB Gem Fact: Charoite hates it when Citrine and Emerald form Prasiolite- not because of them actually fusing, but because Prasiolite is so tall that they trip over Charoite any time they try to do a mission together, since Charoite is terribly small.

Real Talk: More often than not, Charoite and Emerald don’t form Watermelon Tourmaline for fighting. They usually do it because Citrine isn’t home and they can’t reach something.

I mean, it’s either that or one of them trying to knock what they want off the shelf with a scythe… and that never works out well.
